How to connect my roller shutter to Google Home?
The advantages of Somfy smart roller shutters
Choosing connected shutters means first and foremost the best in security by automatically simulating your presence when you are away. It also means energy savings when you choose shutters that open and close depending on the heat in order to optimise your energy management. Plus you enjoy unparalleled convenience with the remote control and verification of the status of your roller shutters.
But today, home automation goes even further and allows you to control your equipment by voice. In addition to controlling them via the mobile app available on a smartphone or tablet, your roller shutters and other household equipment can now be controlled via the Google Home assistant. Here is how it works.
Somfy and Google Home
With its So Open program and its many partners, Somfy is paving the way for new forms of managing home equipment. Roller shutters, blinds, lights, heating, Google Assistant and other devices can now be controlled by voice. To do this, simply obtain the TaHoma home automation box and compatible equipment such as Somfy radio IO or RTS roller shutters.
The TaHoma box and its dedicated app (Android and iOS) make it possible to manage the opening and closing of blinds and shutters, as well as the creation of scenarios to automatically control equipment. To go even further, TaHoma is also compatible with many voice assistants and Smart Home ecosystems such as IFTTT, Amazon Alexa and Google Home assistant.
Connect your box to your Google voice assistant and you can configure your roller shutters and manage their actions via a simple voice command. You just need to download the dedicated app to control your shutters, your boundary, your lighting, your heating and all your living room devices with a single phrase.
Connecting a roller shutter to Google Home
Once your RTS or IO roller shutters are associated with your TaHoma® box, all you need to do is connect it to your Google Home application . Here are the steps to follow:
- Step 1 : Go to Google Home settings.
- Step 2 : Click “add” then “configure a device”.
- Step 3 : Then choose the “works with Google” option.
- Step 4 : Search and select “Somfy TaHoma®”.
- Step 5 : Enter your box identifiers and authorize Google to access your TaHoma® account.
- Step 6 : Start controlling your equipment with your voice.
Once all these settings have been made, simply say “Ok Google” to the Google Home voice assistant and then pronounce the trigger word or phrase depending on the equipment concerned. You can then control your roller shutters directly. For example “Ok Google, open the kitchen”, or “Ok Google, open the kitchen to 50%” (if IO component).
If you have created scenarios beforehand, all you need to do is say “Ok Google, launch (+ the name of the scenario)” for it to start. For example: “Ok Google, start morning routine” or, “Ok Google, start opening living room shutters” to start opening your shutters as soon as you wake up.
