How to remotely control multiple roller blinds at the same time

Being able to simultaneously control several motorized roller blinds or a group of sunshades with a single remote control is both smart and convenient.

Being able to simultaneously control several motorized roller blinds or a group of sunshades with a single remote control is both smart and convenient. In this article we’ll explore some options for doing so. There are two main ways to go:

  • 1-channel remote control: You can connect one sunshade or a group of sunshades (the recommendation is a maximum of five). All sunshades in the group will close or open simultaneously with the press of a button on the control
  • 5-channel remote control: You can individually control five different sunshades or five groups of sunshades (the recommendation is again five in each group). It's also possible to combine individual products and groups within different channels

The same principle applies to wall-mounted controls, although they typically come in either 1-channel or 4-channel versions. Wall-mounted controls are primarily intended to control products in the same room, which is why they have a slightly shorter range compared to handheld remote controls.

Just remember that the sunshades you want to control need to use the same protocol: either RTS, or io-homecontrol.

Want to control your sunshades with a mobile app?

If you prefer to control your sunshades using a mobile app, there are different options available.

We suggest taking a look at our new product: the Somfy Connectivity Kit. Here you can choose to control up to 20 different sunshades with either the RTS or io-homecontrol protocols. The sunshades can be programmed as manual scenes, allowing you to open or close them all at the press of a button.

Note that the Connectivity Kit does not support sensors or automatic scenes. Please also keep in mind that you need a physical remote control to add products to the Connectivity Kit.

More possibilities with the Somfy TaHoma switch

If you want to control multiple devices in your home – as well as make them smarter – the TaHoma switch is the way to go. With this smart controller you can make multiple smart devices and sensors work together. It opens up a range of possibilities in terms of scheduling and automating scenes. This is the main difference compared to the Connectivity Kit. Take a brief look at the mutual differences here >

Whether you choose the Connectivity Kit or the TaHoma switch, both support voice control via Google Home and Amazon Alexa.
