5 ways to make your home safe and secure

The idea of home break-ins can put a strain on our mental and financial wellbeing, therefore when it comes to home security, prevention is always better than cure.

Keeping an ever-watchful eye on your home using a sophisticated camera and sensor equipment is the perfect way to help guarantee peace of mind.

Deterrents are a huge factor in keeping homes safe so the best way to avoid falling victim to burglary is to ensure your home is never considered a target in the first place. In this blog, we will be recommending our top five tips and solutions to improve your home security.

Outdoor Camera

Worrying about keeping your home safe from intruders can keep you up at night. Smart security cameras can take that fear away by keeping an eye on your property when you can’t, 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week. Technology such as the Somfy Outdoor Camera, is designed to monitor your property. The full HD and night vision camera along with the built-in 110dB siren makes plenty of noise, startling and scaring off any unexpected intruders.

Designed to be part of the modern smart home, the Somfy Outdoor Camera, is fully compatible with  Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The ability to simply plug-and-play means that you can start monitoring your property with the Somfy Outdoor Camera, within ten minutes of installation.

Indoor camera

Another effective security measure for your home is installing an indoor camera to your Somfy Protect system. This will enable you to monitor the inside of your property, allowing you to quickly and easily see what’s happening on your smartphone screen. Watch the kids play or your elderly relative at rest, while keeping an eye that the dog isn’t making too much of a mess in the kitchen!

If you want to be in control yourself, the Full HD camera can send a notification to your smartphone when it spots something, allowing you to talk to the intruder directly via two-way communication, completely remotely – ensuring you can stay safely out of harm’s way.

Alarm sensors

Implementing an alarm sensor will provide extra reassurance; helping to settle your home security concerns. The Somfy IntelliTAG consists of multiple sensors and an advanced algorithim to analyse vibration patterns helping to detect the first sign of a break in before an intruder attempts to make entry. Within nanoseconds of a break-in attempt, the IntelliTAG triggers the siren and sends an alert to your smartphone. The Somfy IntelliTAG can tell the difference between normal events such as a knock at the door or a ball bouncing and potential threats like drilling and hammering.

Recording the event

It’s not always enough for a camera to just see an intruder, the evidence needs to be preserved for the police and for possibly insurance purposes. The Somfy Outdoor and Indoor camera both record detected movement lasting up to 30 seconds which can then be downloaded for up to the next seven days. What’s more, the service is completely free of charge for Somfy customers.

For complete ease of use, videos can also be uploaded and downloaded directly from Dropbox, Google Drive and Onedrive, letting you preserve them easily for future use in a way that enables you to share and download them easily.

Somfy Protect smartphone app

With the Somfy Protect app, you can monitor and control everything from your smartphone. The real-time video stream function allows you to view the outside of your property to the indoor environment where your pets and children play. You can enable push notifications so that you can rest easy knowing that you will be notified in the case of an event occurring at your property.

The second great feature is that there is the ‘community watchdog’ style function in the App. You can add friends and neighbours who can be alerted if the camera detects anything, so even if you’re on vacation or at that important meeting - you know somebody will be on hand to come over and check things out, and alert the authorities if needed.
